Open Bore Piling

Open Bore Piling

Open bore piles are formed by drilling open holes into the ground, inserting reinforcement, and concreting the bore.

Typical Applications

Large load-bearing foundations
Bridges
High-rise structures
Stable ground conditions

Advantages

Large pile diameters achievable
High load capacity
Flexible reinforcement arrangements

Limitations

Bore instability risk
Groundwater management required
Slower installation compared to CFA

Typical Execution Sequence

Set out pile positions
Drill borehole to required depth
Support bore using casing or drilling fluid if necessary
Clean pile base
Inspect borehole
Insert reinforcement cage
Pour concrete using tremie method if required
Remove temporary casing where applicable

Quality Control

Bore depth verification
Base cleanliness checks
Concrete testing
Reinforcement inspection
Integrity testing

Subject To

Detailed geotechnical assessment
Groundwater control
Suitable rig access
